The Temple of the Dragon King is situated on Long Road in Qiming
Village. Tradition has it that temple was built in 1631, the
fourth year of Emperor Chongzhen's Reign of the Ming Dynasty. In
1876, the second year of Emperor Guagxu's Reign of the Qing
Dynasty, Qingong Ancestral Temple was built on the left of it in
commemoration of Qin Lian, the magistrate of Nanhui County. In
the 8th year of Emperor Guagxu's Reign (1882), and the 7th year
of the Republic of China (1918), the temple was repaired and
extended twice, comprising 20 temple rooms. In the middle of
October grand temple fair is held here. From 1949, the temple
was used for other purposes till 1988, when it was used as the
subjective hall below Qinciyang Hall. The temple was added a
gate tower and was renovated before it reopened to the public.
In 1993, Heavenly Palace was built. In front of the temple,
Mid-lake Pavilion and Jiuqu Bridge among others were built. It
was an important place for Taoist activities in the seaside area
of Pudong. |
