Chongfu Taoist Temple, located in Sanlin Town, Pudong, was built
in the late years of North the Song Dynasty, and was granted the
name in 1119, the first year of the reign of Emperor Xuanhe of
the Song Dynasty. The God of Xuantian was worshiped there, and
therefore was viewed as "Sheng Tang" (Holy Hall) by the local
people. In the 20th year of Emperor Guagxu's Reign of the Qing
Dynasty (1894), the local people rebuilt the temple. During the
period of the Republic of China, it was once used as a primary
school. After 1949, the temple was used for other purposes, and
was ruined during the "Culture Revolution". In 1987, the temple
was rebuilt on the original site, with an area of 2000 square
meters, and altogether 40 rooms, comprising three courtyards,
ten wing-rooms, as well as the old rooms. In the temple are
enshrined Xuantian God, Guanyin, the Sixty Star Gods, etc. It
has a good popularity among the admirers, including the regular
visitors from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Taoists from Japan. In the
temple are treasured the inherited relics "Lingqian Stele" and
"Shengtangmiao Stele" carried by stone tortoises. |
