Shenyang, formerly known as Fengtian or by its Manchu name Mukden, is a major sub-provincial city and the provincial capital of Liaoning province. Located in central-north Liaoning, it is the province's most populous cityas well as the largest city in Northeast China by urban population, with an urban population of 6.3 million (2010 census), while the total metropolitan population is up to 8.1 million.

It is the oldest meteorite in the world which was formed 4.5 billion years ago and fallen into the Earth 1.9 billion years ago.

Zhongshan Square was reconstructed in 1956 while a magnificent fountain was built in its centre. But that was just the beginning. The square as we see today is mostly the result of a large-scale reconstruction project undertaken in 1969. It began on May 7, 1969 and the first phase was completed on September 28 of the same year. Second phase began on May 13, 1970 and completed on October 1st, 1970. A huge glass-made statue of Mao Zhedong was erected at the centre of the square since 1970.

The Shenyang South Mosque was first built during 1627-1636. The overall design of the the Masque is Chinese ancient temple style. The temple covers an area of 6,117 square meters with a constructed area of 1,706 square meters. It is a three-entrance quadrangle courtyard. The prayer hall is in the center of the temple.

Shisheng Temple is known as “Lotus Pure Land Shengsheng Temple” and is located in the urban area of ​​Shenyang. It is a famous Tibetan Buddhist temple in the Northeast. Shisheng Temple was built in 1636 and is a royal temple built by Emperor Taizong of the Qing Dynasty. It is also known as the “Emperor Temple”.

It was built by Xibo people living in Shengjing in the forty-sixth year of Kangxi. In the eighth year of Jiaqing, two stone tablets were carved on the East and west sides of the hall. The Banruo Temple, also pronounced Bore, is a Buddhist temple located in Shenhe District of Shenyang, Liaoning, China. The temple occupies an area of 1,000-square-metre and the total area including temple lands, forests and mountains is over 3,600-square-metre. It is a Bhikkhuni temple.

Shenyang Ci’en Temple, firstly built in 1644 and completed in 1930, is a Han Chinese Buddhist temple. Being the biggest Buddhist temple in Shenyang at present, it was also chosen as the location of Buddhist Association of Liaoning Province.

Chang'an Temple is an ancient complex in Shenyang. According to legend, it was built in the Tang Dynasty. Chang'an Temple is an important place for Buddhist activities in Shenyang. It was renovated several times in the Ming and Qing dynasties and was listed as a provincial cultural relics protection unit in 1988.
