Qingyun Temple 庆云寺 lies in Heqing, where Fenggong Road and
Longdong Road meet. It was the original site of Mengjiang
Temple. Mengjiang Temple, sponsored by Xu Lingyun,was built in
the 3rd year of Emperor Guangxu's Reign of the Qing Dynasty,. In
December 1993, Qingyun Temple was built with the unified
planning of six temples including Zhongfu Nunnery, Haichao
Temple, Guanyin Hall, Sanguan Hall, Yesanguan Hall, and
Mengjiang Hall . Master Huijue, pupil of Master Mingyang,
supervised preparations for the construction. 1995 saw the
beginning of the construction of the temple,, which was later
opened to the public on December 16, 1997. In front of the
temple is the Dashan Gate, and behind it is the Heavenly King
Hall, which enshrines Buddha Maitreya, Veda at the back and the
Four Heavenly Kings on both sides. Passing through the Heavenly
King Hall, there is a Drum Tower in which the drum has a
diameter of 2 meters. In Drum Tower Jialan Buddha is enshrined.
The Mightiness Hall is 30 meters long, 20 meters wide and 18
meters high. The third generation of Buddha is enshrined in the
main hall, with a height of 5 meters, or 9 meters together with
the seat. On both sides of the hall are the sitting statues of
the 18 Arhats, and at its back is the Hill of 500 Arhats. At the
back of the third generation of Buddha is the infinitely
merciful Thousands Hands Guanyin Qingyun Temple. Covering an
area of 7000 square meters, Qingyun Temple is an important site
for Buddhist activities in Pudong. |
